Govt, KACITA are meeting over Strike

A team of government officials comprising of the minister of trade and industry, Amelia Kyambadde and representatives from the ministry of finance are reportedly in a meeting with   Kampala city traders today over a week shilling.

The meeting in Kampala is aimed at averting the impending two-day sit-down-strike over the relentless fall in the value of the shilling
against the dollar by the traders.

Yesterday’s talks between the trade minister and representatives from the Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) in her office at the farmer’s house complex in Kampala did not yield results.

Traders are to close the shops for two days on Wednesday and Thursday to show the government that they are unhappy with their reluctance to intervene in the exchange rate and the issue of licensing foreigners to do petty businesses in Uganda.
