President Museveni, Russia special envoy discuss development, global peace

President Yoweri Museveni met and held talks with visiting Russian Special Representative to Africa, Mikhail Margelov at the Presidents country home in Kisozi, Gomba district.

The two leaders who discussed ways to explore and improve technical cooperation between Russia and Uganda also exchanged views on the on-going peace processes in the region including in Somalia where Uganda has been vital in returning stability to the war torn country.

Margelov, who is also the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Russian Upper House said his country was willing to support peace efforts in different areas on the continent including in Southern Sudan, Libya and Somalia.

Russia is one of the permanent members of the UN Security Council.

The special envoy was accompanied by the Russian ambassador to Uganda Sergey Shishkin and his deputy Viacheslav Yegorov.

The meeting was also attended by Uganda acting minister of Foreign Affairs Asuman Kiyingi.
