Mbabazi renames Dr.Besigye to Dr. No, hails Ghana opposition political parties

Government is to introduce legislation which will stop monetization of politics in Uganda.  Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi told executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ghana’s ruling party that the laws will also limit government expenditure on elections.

Mbabazi was at the NDC national headquarters in Kokomlemle suburb of Accra, Ghana on Wednesday where he had paid a visit.  He said the government was still analysing the situation to come up with clear regulatory means of stemming voter bribery.

He attached Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) President, Dr Kizza Besigye for not providing alternative governance policies to move the country forward instead of being adversarial to the elected government.

“The job of the opposition is not simply to oppose but Dr Besigye opposes everything, so I have decided to name him Dr. No,” Mbabazi said.  He asked Besigye to learn from Ghana where the opposition advises the elected government as they compete for political power.

Mbabazi led a 19-member delegation to Ghana, composed of Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament and officials at the National Resistance Movement secretariat to attend a three-day meeting on multiparty democracy.

Finance Minister Mrs. Maria Kiwanuka and that of Energy, Eng. Irene Muloni met their respective counterparts and discussed issues in their sectors.  The delegation also paid a courtesy call on the Vice President, John Mahama at the Castle.

Mahama said his government had enacted a number of oil exploration and production, and oil revenue management laws.  He asked the delegation not only to pick best practices but also to learn for the worst experiences.

Mbabazi said Uganda and Ghana discovered oil in their respective countries around the same time but Ghana was far ahead.  He briefed the Vice President on the political situation back home.  He also delivered greetings from President Yoweri  Museveni to the people of Ghana.
