FDC president Kiiza Besigye calls for an investigation

FDC president Kiiza Besigye has called for an investigation into the incident in which security operatives arrested him, bundled him onto a police van, detained him for close to four hours and released him without charge.

Meanwhile Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has vowed not to report back to Kiira road police station as ordered yesterday because he believes he has no case to answer.

The two opposition figures were among the A4C members arrested yesterday as they attempted to get to Katwe a Kampala suburb to attend a rally dubbed by police as illegal.

They were later released with no charge and police said they’d been arrested as a preventive measure to ensure no uncalled for chaos ensues in the city. Six others however remain under custody for assaulting a police officer according to Judith Nabakooba the deputy police spokesperson.

Pressure group A4C recently launched the Walk2Walk Reloaded campaign in protest of high inflation, bad governance among others.
